After some research, I discovered gnome-ppp doesn't provide the password, but
instead relies on the existence of an already-configured password in
/etc/pap-secrets.

If you edit the pap-secrets file and add a line like this:
"ELN/wfjarrett"        *       "<yourpassword>"

It should work.

gnome-ppp sucks ;-)

I had to install KPPP to connect to the internet over a modem. Gnome RPM should
either work, or KPPP should be installed by default instead. The following are
