Yeah, I had tried that too at one point, with no luck lol. Any other ideas?

ended up doing a re-install of any XFree rpms and a few others beside...
no luck
then said s*d it, and did a full install, not formatting /home
memo: redo but this time add partitions for usr/local
tcl/tk8.2.3_blt2.4n + assorted other bits.....
