Patch -003; in sync with trunk commit 555fa2d9

This patch sets the base javac version to 1.7.

if you have java 8 installed you can switch to a pure java8+ build on the 
command line, {{-Djavac.version=1.8}}. This shows up where it currently doesn't 
compile.
