I am steve loughran and I endorse this work :)
I'm going to propose a new branch for this with
# the initial abfs patch which went into trunk,
# the incremental patches individually merged in
# when we are all happy, rebase and merge the branch, with history, into
branch-2.
How about you start with a github PR with that initial branch?
