Steve Loughran commented on HADOOP-9565:
----------------------------------------
It's languished unloved for a long time.
I'd thought of a marker interface to say "this is not a real FS", but as you
know, the behaviour of a blobstore can very between implementations, and indeed
actual deployments.
in HDFS-11644 there's work going on to add a way to probe a stream for having
specific capabilities, this would be an equivalent.
Let me revisit this on friday and see if I can bring it up in line with my
current thinking.

> We can make the fact that some {{FileSystem}} implementations are really
> blobstores, with different atomicity and consistency guarantees, by adding a
> {{Blobstore}} interface to add to them.
> This could also be a place to add a {{Copy(Path,Path)}} method, assuming that
> all blobstores implement at server-side copy operation as a substitute for
> rename.
