   It can come in handy to have the ability to fully replace a table without 
any disruption or changes for those issuing queries.  If there was support to 
add/remove (especially atomically add and remove) aliases from tables, it would 
be easy to reconstruct a table with a new set of configurations, or 
bootstrapped in a different way than the original table, and then "swap" the 
table alias to the new table.
   
   Ex. making an incompatible schema or table spec change
