Curious what the group thinks about this subject,
In particular, the Halyard. I just noticed my halyard was all torn and
ragged about 8' or 10' up from the head, I am guessing from stress on the
cover from the point it sits on the sheave with the first reef. (The core
was still fine, I think Dyneema or a blend) I cut it off there, and did a
Halyard Knot, fortunately there was enough tail to do this, I think I read
somewhere that you lose some strength with a knot that you don't lose with
a splice, and while a splice is not an option in this case, I am thinking
of just using the knot when I replace the halyard instead of the splice. .
Not only is it way easier, the splice was kind of fat and pinched in the
sheave because it is a long splice.
Any thoughts?
