Another battery thought: As I get older, my enthusiasm for lifting up 4D and 8D
batteries has declined a LOT. The golf cart form factor, GC2 I think, in wet,
gel, or AGM gives you two batteries around 60-70 pounds instead of one 120-140
pound battery. An 8D battery box will hold 3 group 24 batteries that will be a
lot easier to move around with the weight split into thirds. Trucks are getting
into using batteries instead of running the engines while parked and they
usually make their house bank out of several group 31 batteries. Those are not
too hard to handle and the mass production allows one to find relatively cheap
AGMs in that size.
If you ever go for a really big bank you can get some batteries in individual 2
volt cells that you assemble onsite.
