Lonel,

A lot of CMS systems provide you with the ability to do this.
To give you an example, Vignette deals with 3 main types of content items,
viz.
1. Template
2. Record
3. File

It treats all files (.doc's, .pdf's, .jpg's, .gif's etc.) as content items
and provides
you API's to manage the versions, editions etc.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Vijay.

What I have in mind is managing the documents themselves, to mean:
keeping track of editions, basically. Nothing to do with content. This
question may be out of place here, come to think of it. Thanks anyway.

Lionel,

That depends on what you mean by "managing". If you mean managing the
content of the book i.e.the individual pages or chapters then I don't
think you'll find one that will do that and maintain the (PDF,.doc)
format. If you mean managing the book as "content item" within the
content management system then there are several.

What is that you want to do?

Paul
