What part of the patch did you use?
a) The custom spec file
or
b ) CPACK_RPM_XXX added var?
I used the CPACK_RPM_XXX method (much easier to write than a custom spec)
Now, maybe there could be the same thing for CPACK_DEB package
generation ... Just an idea
