Special "symbol": 'nil => nil (symbol? 'nil) => false (symbol "nil") => nil (symbol? (symbol "nil")) => true (= 'nil (symbol "nil")) => false (= 'nil nil) => true We can see that (symbol "nil") truly evaluates to symbol nil. On the other side, reader evalutes 'nil to nil (nothing).
