ATI really sucks! For sure, I'll continue to buy Nvidia cards. On their
driver download page, Linux and BSD drivers are on the top.
They also run an active forum with a part dedicated to Linux drivers.
Nvidia people help users to get it sorted when they're any issues. And
finally, they regularly upgrade their drivers, and I've already seen
some bugs on my computer which were solved later.

So, since a long time now, I don't hesitate at all to put my money in
Nvidia cards.

Can't you upgrade your GFX card on your desktop? My desktop is damn old
(a Thinkpad 600E!) but I've read graphic cards can be changed on some
desktops.
