No offence intended, but i think that the forward voltage of the diode is not 
really
relevant for the application as described.. A lower forward voltage will result
is a slightly slower dampening of the relay coil's current, but the current 
will probably 
be 'gone' much faster than the mechanics of the relay can react anyway.
