rovka added a comment. Just for the record, I'd like to speak in favor of option 2 - merge the patch now, but put the functionality behind a flag. This sounds like a good compromise to me. I think if we choose an inconspicuous name like -fexperimentail-test-driver-integration-with-cmake (or something even more obfuscated) we'll be off most users' radar, while at the same time making progress with cmake. We should probably first confirm that it would be acceptable for the cmake developers to go ahead with something like that.
