If you can't convert to mySQL or postgres (if you need
subselects etc then you'd best go with postgres) then there are ways
to connect to an access database hosted on an nt server.  Try these
guys:

http://www.openlinksw.com/index.htm

the openlink drivers can connect you to access quite happily, among
other things.

You emphatically *can't*, however, use an access mdb file ON the linux
server.
