Thanks for the help guys - I got onto the box and played about a bit - I
think the problem was that the people we co-lo with recompiled apache to the
EAPI version, and the coldfusion module was compiled for the earlier api.
The system log was catching errors from apache in that regard.  Then I had a
couple of other problems where all the code for cfadmin disappeared
somehow - apparantly they didn't do anything but yeah... hehe

It's working now.  I removed cf altogether, installed again, installed sp2
and recompiled the module for EAPI.  all seems to be happy now...
