I think it would be nice to have it as option. If I remember correctly, it was introduced back then when brush presets in Krita were not available :) Maybe we have some bug report about it in bugs.kde.org. The workflow which this multiplier supported was: "I work with small brushes so I need to precisely and quickly select brush size in interval 1 to 10 with tablet in my hand. Ok, let's open brush preset editor and change it from 5 px to 10 px". If the slider is without multiplier areas,it is completely cumbersame to select desired brush size quickly with tablet pen, because you would jumped to huge offset easily (e.g. now I want brush with 10 pixels -- slider is like: nah, have a 54 pixels brush instead :) ) But many new features might make this obsolete workflow: features like shortcuts to change brush size, Shift-drag feature, presets.
