If you have time this evening 7:45 - 8:30pm and are able to make a contact

Subject: Ham Operator Offering QSOs with Scouts
To: [email protected] <[email protected]>

Sean (N5LNK):

Thank you for sharing a QSO with me on HF at least once in the past 16
months. I have a quick request…

On Tuesday evening (6/3), I’m introducing ham radio to approximately 25-30
Boy Scouts (age 10-17) and their leaders/parents. We will be on-the-air
for approximately 45 minutes via four stations including VHF, DMR, and two
HF stations as shown below. Perhaps you might listen for us on HF and try
to speak with the Scouts -- perhaps a parent or leader too.

*WHEN *(ZONE | DAY | START to END)

· *EDT* | Tue 6/3 | 8:45pm (20:45) to 9:30pm (21:00)

· *CDT* | Tue 6/3 | 7:45pm (19:45) to 8:30pm (20:30)

· *PDT* | Tue 6/3 | 5:45pm (17:45) to 6:30pm (18:30)

· *UTC* | Wed 6/4 | 12:45am (00:45) to 1:30am (01:30)

*OUR LOCATION: *In Glen Ellyn Illinois, 22mi/35km West of Chicago (EN51xv,
CQ4, ITU-8)

*CALLSIGNS & TARGET FREQUENCIES*

· K9MSG on 14.328* (20-meters)

· KG9R on 7.180* (40-meters)

**NOTE: If unavailable, we will go incrementally higher, and I will update
our frequencies at the top of my QRZ.com page
<https://www.qrz.com/db/k9msg> where you can presently see details about
this event and a similar event I ran last week with another nearby troop.*

If you’re able to help, thank you! If you are not available or can’t hear
us, we certainly understand. Perhaps you might share this email with
others.

We won’t have much time to train the kids so this will be pretty informal.
Please help keep the QSOs brief so they can each (hopefully) have a few
opportunities at the mic. Feel free to ask them a question and tell them
something about you (your location, your age when you became licensed, your
favorite amateur radio activity, etc.).

Each Scout will receive an 8-page packet about our hobby (how radio waves
work, radio lingo, sample log, RST tables, safety, emergency calls, how to
pursue the Radio Merit Badge, etc.). While this experience certainly won’t
qualify them for a Radio Merit Badge
<https://www.scouting.org/merit-badges/radio/>, my club will help any
interested Scouts in that pursuit. Once we’re off-the-air, we’re going to
have a mock ham radio quiz game where they break into 3 teams (their
patrols) and ‘buzz-in’ to answer questions and show what they’ve learned -
wish them luck. We hope to snag photos to share later.
