Alas your suggestion failed as show below.
>From a cold boot using:

and then at

appears to have hung.
Timed roughly with a wristwatch, >10 minutes later the display
still shows:

* using a PS2 keyboard the machine responds to:
boot> boot -c
and then the keyboard and machine also respond to:
UKC> disable amdgpu0
UKC> quit
The machine begins to boot but when it reaches:

the displayed output remains constant for >= 90 seconds. Then the fan
speeds increase and the display goes black and blank.
When I have posted this mail to bugs@ I will begin preparing to build
a new kernel that incorporates Jonathons diff changes. The local time
where I am is 15:35 on the 8th of March. In case something further
that may be helpful is suggested, I will delay my build on a separate
machine until 20:00 (my time) tonight.
Ideally, my kernel build will need to be in sync with the install75.img
files on the troublesome machine? So, to reduce the chances of out of
sync errors, I will build a kernel and create a release to install with
a USB flash drive on the troublesome machine.
My local cvs repository is reposync'ed (usually) daily from
rsync://anoncvs.au.openbsd.org/cvs/ in Brisbane. I will update it and
then update my /usr/src directory before building.
