For the short term, I very much disagree. Better indexing support can be quickly added as a feature available on certain platforms until a universal solution is found – and implemented. It's not clear to me at all why you object so strongly. It is a noble goal to make texinfo work universally, but first and foremost it is a GNU project, and one of the central points in its philosophy that it should work well in GNU environments, with other platforms having less priority. > The right way of solving this is not to request unattainable goals > like complete independence of the locale.
