I'm pretty sure that installing gettext also installs libintl, and that either libiconv or libintl (or maybe the two together) cause the problem. In particular, if I configure with --without-libiconv-prefix and --without-libintl-prefix, then the error does not occur (though "make check" gives some errors when I configure that way). > Can you get a stack backtrace when it suffers signal 11?
