Hi there, I tried to make the latest tar on my shared system (hosted on Hostmonster, CentOS 6.7), but some tests (make check) failed, see attached. The reason I was trying to upgrade was because I had problems installing Lilypond, which makes use of tar, and my old version (1.23) had problems with extracting symlinks.
