Follow-up Comment #3, bug #40657 (project make): I guess I'm not quite sure what you're asking for here: what kind of diagnostic do you mean?
In general I don't like to emit diagnostics for things which are actually legal and defined makefile syntax, even if they're unlikely to be what the author actually wanted.
