Why is the RC file important? IME, maintaining such Windows specific files is
a nuisance in the long run, as they fall out of sync.
Why? It's can be nice to know which compiler was used to build
gnumake.exe, release/debug and on which date etc. (I build gnumake
with both MSVC and MingW). And an icon is nice too so one can see
GNU-make in running in e.g. Task Manager or Process Explorer. An
icon requires an .rc file.
IMHO all programs with some self-respect should have a .rc/.ico
file. No problem with falling out of sync if NMakefile.template can
create the gnumake.rc itself.
