If the next release is close, then what about the following 2 issues,
which were discussed, but AFAIK not finalized:

 . the plugin_is_GPL_compatible symbol in the dynamic objects as a
   prerequisite for their loading into Make

 . a more portable way of loading dynamic objects, e.g. by providing a
   platform-dependent $SOEXT variable that could be used instead of a
   literal .so or .dll extensions

I suggest we finalize these before producing a release candidate.
