It could also be worth asking about on the binutils list. I *think* (but am not sure) that it's to do with linking mixed -fPIC and non-fPIC code, perhaps libprorex.so wasn't compiled with it? Or perhaps it's something from libgcc that needs multilibbing against fPIC.
