I should mention that what I've done with this effort so far is now regarded as minimally valuable over at the MinGW List, because the main GNU `make' tool being distributed and used over there is the MSYS port, which is based on Cygwin's port. I probably should have started with that port instead of the older one (a "purely Win32" port done mostly by Mumit Khan a few years ago). I was in ignorance of these important distinctions and plunged in a bit prematurely, perhaps. Mostly I created the sitelet in order to keep my results minimally organized and accessible to myself.
