Will a future version of gnu make recognize files with the ".f90" suffix 
and compile them with whatever the default fortran compiler $(FC) is set 
to?

The scientific community uses fortran quite extensively, and fortran 90 
eliminates the tiresome limitations of older versions of fortran.
