I think there is something wrong with your system, or the way make was
built.
Are you building this on a local disk, or on an NFS-mounted (or
otherwise networked) filesystem?
If you run the "make check" command multiple times, does it always fail
in the same places, the same way, or is it variable?
If you look in the tests/work directory and send me the files you find
there (tar/compress first pls.), and I'll take a look.
