Hi Flavio,

thank you so much for working on this.  I have two nitpicks at this
point, 1/ the subject line of this patch is way too long, it will look
out of place in all the tools, and 2/ applying the first patch will
break the build, and it will only compile again if the whole series is
applied.  This breaks e.g. git bisect.  Patches 2-8 are quite small,
we might want to smash all patches into one instead.
