Hi! Fotis raised an important point here, that is equally valid for all GSoC students as well as any other contributors, so that surely warrants a public mention, so taking this to the bug-hurd mailing list:

Thanks for this positive attitude to software development apprenticeship and generally personal/professional development! If you are interested, and as you seem to like to read a lot ;-), I may as well recommend a book covering that very topic: »Apprenticeship Patterns, Guidance for the Aspiring Software Craftsman«, Dave Hoover, Adewale Oshineye, O'Reilly Media, 2009, <http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9780596518387.do>. I've read this last summer (at a beach in Sanya, China, heh), and found it described very many of the patterns that we're using in our open software development models. Was a good read, so I'm happy to recommend it. Per <http://blog.oshineye.com/2010/05/apprenticeship-patterns-is-now-creative.html> this is also available for non-paper, free-of-charge online reading, covered by a Creative Commons license.
