en keyboard layout

I had a look at the archives here, but they weren't much help. I'm running Debian GNU/Hurd in QEMU, but there doesn't seem a way to set the keyboard language to english/gb for the Hurd console. I installed both console-driver-xkb and clavier, but I can't seem to find a way to configure them. Any ideas? Thanks.
