You're using the Debian hurd package, I guess.
The patch included in
there that enables file systems bigger than 2 GiB has the disadvantage
that only file systems with block sizes of 4096 bytes will work at all.

Your possibilities now are: a) investigate and fix this problem

b) simply create and use file systems only with a block
size of 4096 bytes,
