It's quite probably a BIOS bug. I remember to have had problem with
this laptop and its NIC even with Linux 2.4.

The right thing to do is to implement an PCI IRQ router that tell to
PCI bios what interrupt to use for that device (according to system's
IRQ Routing table). I am already implementing that.
