Hi Thomas, hello, my part of the SiS900 story started with the patch contributed by Gaƫl Le Mignot and Manuel Menal (ported from Linux 2.4) in:

Exploring the reason for that lead to the changes described in: http://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2005/03/msg00245.html If I remember it correctly, I compared the part of the driver which sometimes failed with the linux-2.6 driver. For the code in question I plugged in the newer one and since then the detection problem disappeared. I'm not an expert and therefore can't comment on the changes. But if you need someone to test your code I can try to find some time to do that.
