I'd already intended to move to using vanilla (not CREATOR_OS_HURD) ext2 format using the xattr on-disk format to store the translator and author information. This is the natural physical storage format to use since these on-disk formats already have it and we can avoid the niggling issues with format variants that the OS_HURD ext2 variant has exposed us to. But please realize that this is an entirely separate issue from any xattr facility exposed in the Hurd protocols.
