What I meant was setting the locale to this.  As keymap you should
just use "ru".

I think you can force dpkg to install the locale package or perhaps it
works with the newest glibc Jeff built a while ago.  In Marcus' mail
he said the following about the locale package:

"Install the locales package.  The current version does want a newer
glibc than we have in the archive, but this can be overridden with the
--force-depends option to dpkg.  The old glibc is good enough."
