I tested that again with a 80x25 xterm and it works fine! I just had forgotten
to give it the right size last time I tried...

Oops.  Actually, it does use 25 lines on my machine too (and LINES==25).  But
it looks like there is one more line which is unused (maybe just an
impression?). :)
