What happens if I log into the Hurd machine remotely, from an UTF-8 capable terminal (either hooked on a serial line or via telnet/ssh)? Doesn't the term need to be multibyte aware then just as well? That doesn't mean we shouldn't do the console-specific solution in the console+libtermserver thingie, but I think I would like to look for the generic solution first (in particular as the normal term is what we are exclusively using for the time being).
