Sorry, it seems I was too careless when reading Ludovic Courtès' message, I read "most of the cpu time" but missed the parenthesis saying "30 %". But anyway, for a performance comparison between Hurd and Linux to be meaningful, one would have to do it on the same or at least pretty similar hardware. I just wanted to point out that I wouldn't expect all kinds of heavy disk mangling to necessarily imply heavy cpu activity.
