Ah, no.  See my other mail for more info, but that's where it is failing.

I will recompile the Hurd with the new glibc to see if that is where the
problem lies.  There is certainly an issue with Debian following development
branches in its unstable distribution (although noticing problems early
isn't bad either).

Maybe it is a build chain problem.
