Follow-up Comment #2, bug #27336 (project grub): just wanted to point out a workaround for the lack of boot-time console choice support for grub 1.9x:
http://cmrg.fifthhorseman.net/browser/trunk/debirf/src/grub2-terminal-chooser Basically, it takes advantage of grub's new scripting support to allow the boot-time user to select a console and stick with it. It's a bit clumsy, but it WorksForMe™. I hope it's helpful.
