I'll never understand C programmers' lust for exporting that language's
identifier syntax everywhere they can.

Well, actually I do understand it.

In the 1980s, C was going to displace all other programming languages.  C
hackers were going to rewrite the whole world in it and establish eternal
dominance.

Just like Java was in the 1990s/2000s.

And just like Rust (or Go) is today.

Anyway, device and font description files are in a simple, declarative
language.  No one working with them should make any C-related assumptions.
