The '[' / ']' usually match; therefore these are the characters that
I use to look at in my editor.

Paul's trick is to use AS_CASE instead of 'case' statements. But to me,
that cure make things only worse, because
  - This makes things harder to understand for me, since I am more
    used to writing shell commands directly.
  - The indentation of the AS_CASE arguments is not consistent.
