Thanks for the new regex testing code where it still fails on OS X (10.15.6 (19G2021)) and it printed this in the log: test-regex: re_search 'i' on 'İ' returned -1 Confirmed that flaw affects grep too, (added parens require use of regex): $ LC_ALL=tr_TR.utf8 grep -i i <<< İ [1] $
