GNU sed is listed as a dependency of gnulib in the > DEPENDENCIES file: Agreed. Sorry for casting aspersions on gnulib. I forgot that FreeBSD's sed is not based on GNU sed and this threw me. OSX's and FreeBSD's sed both share a common ancestry.
