The corresponing patch for libtool.m4 has been applied already; this is the second change we need to make to support FreeBSD 10.0 and later. (FreeBSD 1.x did not support shared libraries at all and has not been supported for a decade or more.)
Once this has been applied in gnulib I understand this should also go into GCC HEAD, 4.5 and 4.4.
