FWIW, I'm still working on several projects that like linear development (coreutils, gnulib, m4, libvirt), but I'm also in the process of converting autoconf over to branched development, to match git, automake, and libtool. So I'm not going to care if we switch, but I also won't be the one begging to switch.
Both models have their uses. And the nice part about git being distributed is that you can play with merged development on your own, and then flatten it with 'git rebase' before posting upstream to a linear model.
