I guess that depends on your definition of "portable", then. I tend to
define that as conforms-to-POSIX-and-C89. YMMV.
Not that there is any great need to continue this discussion, I'm not
going to make a big deal of it as I already mentioned, just pointing out
that this will (as I know from experience) prevent me from building GNU
stuff in the future on some platforms.
So far it's been a while since I've tried to build anything new, which
is why I haven't been complaining, and I may /never/ try to build
anything new. Ergo not worth worrying about on my account; for now,
possibly for ever.
