How shall I proceed, is there a test suite I can run against newlib to
check for missing functions or something? Or shall I simply hack a
script that builds up one test per function mentioned in gnulib?

Run

gnulib-tool --create-megatestdir --dir ~/some/where/

and wait for it to finish, then run ./configure && make check in
~/some/where/.

I get this:
configure.ac:132: warning: AM_INTL_SUBDIR is m4_require'd but not m4_defun'd

The `AM_'-part suggests that this macro is from Automake, but it's not (even though Automake has a AM_GNU_GETTEXT_INTL_SUBDIR macro).

Any idea?
